South Central BOCES is an approved Designated Agency for the Alternative Teacher Licensure Program. This program provides an opportunity for the candidate to become licensed as a teacher through a site-based, one year program of training and supervision.
While participating in the program, each candidate has a professional support team to provide instruction, supervision and performance evaluations. The team consists of a principal, an experienced, licensed mentor teacher and a representative of higher education. Instruction for the participant consists of 225 clock hours of planned instruction and activities. The hours required may be modified by the professional support team, based upon an evaluation of the alternative teachers experience, knowledge and skills.
Alternative teachers are employees of the school district. Salaries vary by school district and this information is available from the school districts.
